ScrapBook
For my scrapbook my goal will be to show my past activities such as my extra curricular activities, my school work and my job. In order to show how my past has shaped my current situation and what I am trying to achieve. Secondly I wish to show how my activities now will affect my future school work possible degree options and job opportunities. The over all goal of the scrapbook will be to show that I really don't know what I will be doing in the next few years.

Oklahoma City Memorial
Having been to the Oklahoma City Memorial on two occasions, there is no need for me to look at the web sight to see the imposing black gates, the chairs that light up in the darkness, and the thought full black reflecting pool. It is a very sad place to visit even on bright summer days and very humbling on cold dark days. On entering the memorial a person must walk through one of the huge black gates that tower. Above each entrance is the time before and after the bomb's explosion, symbolizing how quickly the world can change. The chairs are strategically placed in the locations where the offices were located families bring flowers to the put in the beside the chairs. The chairs, them selves, at night look like bright thrones for lost lives to sit. A bright place between two dark gates next to a dark pool. The flowers brought to the memorial keeps the keeps the memorial alive; the flowers help people realize that it was not very long ago that the bombing occurred. The reflection pool made of black stone absorbs the light from the green sounding area, causing the atmosphere to quiet and allow for contemplation. The memorial combines darkness and light to create a place were the past can be remembered and the hope for the future.

Discourse Communities and Technology
Blogger.com,
Blackboard,
Facebook,
Hotmail,
Online banking,
and "The Horse"
are the main Discourse Communities online that I am involved in. I find that these communities are beneficial in that they keep me informed with what is happening with my friends, family, and in some ways the world. Blackboard allows me to communicate with people that I would not normally talk with in class or get information from teachers and other students with out going to class rooms to get the information. Blackboard allows me to further my education in any area with Internet.
There are draw backs to Internet Discourse Communities, Facebook can be distracting. Facebook, with its many games and quizzes, pulls my attention away from practice, homework, or job work.

Discourse Communities andCommenplaces
Discourse Communities are places were people gather and share information. The people that join these communities normally need help finding answers to questions about generic subjects such as Swimming. These other people will share advise and information about problems and concepts they understand or have had trouble understanding. The goal of the group is similar: learning about swimming. However, the people involved in the group will not have the same individualized goals such as swimming a 400 Butterfly. Discourse Communities goals are to collect and share knowledge between different people.
Commonplaces are books and magazines that hold memories and define aspects of a persons life. Scrap books, Cook books and Magazines were very common forms of commonplaces. Today the internet holds many different kinds of commonplaces. An example of a commonplace is the blog: Beginning Singer. This Commonplace belongs to discourse community wishing to learn about singing and how to become a better singer. The community can relate to the blog because they have been or are all Begging singers. The community has values rooted in to becoming more experienced singers and spreading the art of music to further generations. The goal of the commonplace "Beginning Singer" is to share information on learning to sing.

Argumentative Appeals
Argumentative appeals such as Logos, Ethos, and Pathos are ways advertisers capture the attention of possible consumers. Logos is a method of persuading the viewer through deductive reasoning and arguments that the product being sold is the most logical choice. Similarly, Ethos uses the consumers moral and ethical beliefs to prove that the product is a better. Lastly, Pathos is directed at the viewers emotional proses of thinking, these are arguments that are aimed at strong emotions such as anger or elation. These appeals are used in varying degrees in advertising to capture the viewers attention.
The ads that I am analyzing, as I stated above, use Pathos to capture the audiences attention. Children and Ground Zero have strong emotional bases in most peoples minds. All people have been children whether it was ten years ago or when the dinosaurs walked the earth. Most people can remember what it was like to idolize their favorite person and play that they are that person and have the same job. The ad "Spanish Riding School" is used to invoke positive memories from the audience. The ad is less likely to be forgot if it is linked to the viewers strong emotions . Along the same lines, in "Respect" Ground Zero was used to tie the strong patriotic feelings to the brand. By buying Budweiser, you are buying American (or at least that was the case when the ad came out).

Rhetorical Advertising
I chose to use the "Spanish Riding School" from the Vienna Collection and "Respect: Budweiser Clydesdale Salute to 9/11" <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zXZX2sXHYI> for the ability to create and identity and define their character.
The Vienna advertisement uses the emotional appeal of kid's dreams to define the identity of Vienna. The Spanish Ridding School ad is directed towards people planning a European vacation. Similarly, "Respect" appeals more to the audience's logic and by defining the character of Budweiser as a company. Budweiser used this ad to portray themselves as an American company and was directed to an American Audience.
