Facebook is a valuable tool to keep in touch with family and friends, but its numerous games and quizzes can be distraction from school and work.

Discourse Communities and Technology

Blogger.com,
Blackboard,
Facebook,
Hotmail,
Online banking,
and "The Horse"
are the main Discourse Communities online that I am involved in. I find that these communities are beneficial in that they keep me informed with what is happening with my friends, family, and in some ways the world. Blackboard allows me to communicate with people that I would not normally talk with in class or get information from teachers and other students with out going to class rooms to get the information. Blackboard allows me to further my education in any area with Internet.

There are draw backs to Internet Discourse Communities, Facebook can be distracting. Facebook, with its many games and quizzes, pulls my attention away from practice, homework, or job work.
